The 38th Annual International Conference of the Bangladesh Society of Microbiologists (BSM) took place at BRAC University from December 28 to 29, 2024. This two-day event brought together scientists, researchers, academics, veterinarians, industry professionals, clinicians, and students from across the globe to discuss and explore advancements in microbiology and related fields.

A highlight of the event was the participation of the International Society of Bangladesh Affiliated Microbiologists (ISBM), a voluntary, nonprofit, and nonpolitical organization of microbiology professionals, which set up a membership booth at the conference. The booth received an overwhelming response from attendees, with over 600 visitors representing 53 Bangladeshi institutions and 10 international organizations. This remarkable turnout reflects the growing interest and engagement within the microbiology community.

Distinguished visitors to the ISBM booth included eminent scientists and microbiologists such as Dr. Anwar Huq, Past President of ISBM and Professor at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA; Dr. Sheikh Abdus Selim, President-Elect and Director at PHL Associates, Inc., Davis, CA, USA; Monjurul Karim, Vice-President and Professor of Microbiology at the University of Dhaka; Abul Kalam Azad, Advisor and Professor at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet; and Dr. Nadia Deen, Associate Professor at BRAC University, among others.

ISBM Fellow Mohammad Nazmus Sakib and volunteer Nazia Hassan Nisha warmly welcomed participants, contributing to a vibrant and engaging booth experience. The event registered 123 new ISBM members from institutions such as BRAC University, Jahangirnagar University, North South University, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, University of Dhaka, and the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI).
