ISBioMics (Volume 1, Issue 1, June 2022)
A quarterly eNewsletter of ISBM
Abstract
Since its inception, ISBM has been instrumental in engaging its members through various activities. The newly elected Executive Committee has decided to publish a quarterly eNewsletter for enhanced science communication and information sharing purposes among the members. The goal is to update the members frequently on current and future ISBM events and contemporary health and science issues affecting our community locally and globally. ISBioMics (pronounced ‘I-S-Biomics’) is the quarterly eNewsletter of ISBM, which was suggested by a fellow ISBM member, Dr. Mohammad Tarequl Islam. The idea of ISBioMics came from combining the terms 'ISBM' and 'OMICS,’ which will serve the purpose of an electronic news portal to disseminate information related to ISBM events, and its members’ activities. The highlights of the inaugural issue of ISBioMics include a brief history of ISBM, a featured article on the distinguished microbiologist, Dr. Khwaja M Sultanul Aziz, and a featured science article by Dr. Muhammad Golam Morshed on the control of mosquitoes in Dhaka city to stop the spread of infectious mosquito-borne diseases. Two op-eds and several other science articles on contemporary issues, contributed by the respected ISBM members, a collection of science trivia “Did you know?”, a Bengali fiction, a Bengali poem, and some of the recentaccomplishments of Bangladeshi Microbiologists are also featured in this issue. The cover photo is an artistic rendition of the world’s largest bacterium, Thiomargarita magnifica, with a dime. Photo credit: Pierre Yves Pascal and Susan Brand. I hope you will enjoy the first issue and plan on contributing to future issues. All commentary, ideas, and opinions expressed within the content of each article are solely the author's and do not necessarily reflect the views and beliefs of the ISBioMics, ISBM, or its affiliates. Please direct your questions or comments to the editor’s email. We hope through ISBioMics; that our society will grow from strength to strength and contribute positively to shaping the microbiological society in Bangladesh and elsewhere.
